I am surprised the Athletic would float this silly suggestion. Any team offering significant assets would want to extend Chychrun. Why would a guy who grew up in South Florida want to spend the next 6-8 years in Winnipeg with his UFA year coming up? Both players have NTCs so presumably Ottawa and Winnipeg are on both. And that's in addition to your sound arguments against investing in Ehlers long term.

What's intriguing is trading JC to Nashville. A place he'd logically want to extend in, and getting the Vegas #19 overall this year in a deal could go a long way towards fixing our meagre prospect pool. Freeing up cap space would help us get the vet RD we need, though it will cost more than 4.6 -- we need to overpay to get any of the top shelf guys.

As for Garrioch, it's like a little kid chasing a butterfly trying to understand how his brain works. His lede on the hiring of our new pro scouting guru is that Staios "has started to" assemble his front office. Hello? There have been several moves, including Poulin months ago.
