In a midseason address to discuss the latest happenings with his hockey club, general manager Steve Staios met with the local media yesterday. The timing was impeccable. With the approaching trade deadline and his team’s inspired play of late, there were plenty of meaty items of substance for Staios to provide insight.
One thing I'd love an answer to, but will likely not get one, is: "What decisions, if any, have been made in terms of coaching or personnel management that wouldn't have been made had Tierney not joined the crew?" In other words, is he being listened to?
I wouldn't worry about whether Tierney is being listened to. Given his extensive history with Staios and ownership, I'd have a hard time believing that his voice doesn't carry weight.
I would not want to be Staios at the moment. Some really tough decisions to make that will probably feel like a coin toss, and no market patience left whatsoever.
I'd like to think there's market patience for the new ownership/management group. I understand and respect the frustration with how we've reached this point, but I think most fans recognize this group needs a few tweaks to reach higher levels. There's likely not going to be much loyalty to the impending free agents, but I do wonder how the group is going to handle the goaltending position.
