Have the Sens hired further analytics staff since they brought in Tierney? I hope so, but I haven't seen announcements.

I like this DiMaio hire. It was a position that badly needed to be filled and he seems to have useful experience for the role.

I expect Staios to be at the wheel for at least the next few years. It is nice to have a potential successor in Bowness, but my guess is that it will be a while yet before that matters.

They have not announced any subsequent moves to bolster the analytics department.

Thanks for the info. I hope that is an area they address this summer. At least get a couple of interns to help them crunch through the data from this past season.

Just the kind of move no self-respecting hockey development professional would have considered under the old regime. Building out hockey ops should be job one and Staios is showing he understands that. Having said that, I do get worn out hearing the dumping on PD. Everything he did was influenced by the character of the guy who owned the team.

I think that's a giant cop out. Dorion is not some automaton. He was (and is) capable of original thought and carrying out plans. Was he limited by the budget and resources available to him? Absolutely, but you cannot give his record a pass simply because of the owner.

There is a difference between giving someone a pass and analyzing a person in context. Let's not make a false dichotomy. That said, I consider the Melnyk/Dorion era water under the bridge and am much more interested in looking forward than looking back.

I enjoy your writing and look forward to hearing your continued thoughts on this off-season and next year.

Who said anything about giving him a pass? I am just tired of reading criticism of him without respect to the working conditions. Those included a mentally disturbed owner who I believe constantly interfered in hockey operations and a skeleton staff working for cheap and probably unqualified to give him much useful advice. I could go on but I'll leave it at 'He did a mediocre job under awful employment conditions'.
